This online slot game is based on the renowned Labyrinth that was created for King Minos in Greek Mythology. During the bonus mode, which will be covered later in this review, the maze can clearly be seen in the background. Maze Escape is played on a 6x7 grid and includes the ever-popular Megaways mechanic. However, the overall look of this slot is unique when compared to alternatives with the same features. The main difference in this regard is that the number of pay lines depends on how many blocker symbols appear during one round. 

It may come as no surprise to punters that this slot was released by Fantasma Games, a provider that puts a huge emphasis on the visual side of their slot titles. Of course, this doesn't mean that the other areas get left behind either, with the mechanics and features included in Maze Escape Megaways also helping to enhance the overall experience. There are three standard symbols within Maze Escape Megaways, which are coins with the Lambda, Theta, and Omega symbols on top. Next are the premium symbols that comprise of an axe, a headpiece, a helmet, a green Goddess, a blue God, and finally, an orange Goddess. In the same order, they can award players with 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, 2x, 2.5x, and 3x their stake size.

Wilds are one of the special symbols for players to look out for, represented by an angry Minotaur wielding an axe. The only other symbol left to cover is the scatter symbol, shown as a golden medallion.

One of the features within Maze Escape Megaways is based on the golden frame that is present on the first reel throughout the base game. If one of the symbols within this frame is part of any matching combination, players will trigger the ‘Shifting Maze Avalanche’ bonus. 

During this mode, the symbols that are the same as the one within the golden frame will lock in place, with the others being removed from the board. From here, all symbols will move one reel to the left. Players will then receive respins, with an additional two blocker symbols being removed each turn. More symbols will then drop into play, with this process repeating until the selected symbol is not part of any matching combination.

Some of the blockers that are removed during the end of each respin may have symbols on them. If a blocker with a special symbol is removed, one of two modifiers can trigger. The first is called ‘Goddess of Athena’, which will immediately add 1, 2, 3, or 4 special symbols across the board. 

‘Minotaur Wild’ is the name of the second modifier, which will cause on reel to become entirely wild, with a multiplier of 1x to 7x also being added. Scatter symbols will also be collected through the respins.

Speaking of scatter icons, landing three or more across any of the reels will activate the free spins bonus. Players will start this round with ten spins. However, matching combinations will also trigger the aforementioned 'Shifting Maze Avalanche' feature. When playing in free spins mode, a different symbol can appear on blockers, and an increasing win multiplier will also be introduced. If these blockers disappear, players will be awarded with either 1-3 additional spins or 1x-3x added to the win multiplier.
