Online slot games can take on some weird and beautiful themes, but a potato theme is an entirely left-field approach by Print Studios, as achieved in the Royal Potato slot game. The motivation behind creating this slot has its roots – see what we did there? – in previous slot games. They are building on the successes of the Crystal Golem slot while also including elements of the Fat Series from Push Gaming within the Royal Potato's bonus round. This will become clearer as we explain the bonuses in Royal Potato later.
From a visual perspective, Royal Potato is a warm and friendly slot with a much more inviting aesthetic in comparison to Crystal Golem. Print Studios has created an array of characterised spuds as icons to add to the game's colourful and softer visuals. These potatoes are placed in a hierarchical order involving queen potatoes, nobles, guards and others. It's all a bit crazy, but there is a lot to like about this potato world.
The grid is larger than the one found on Crystal Golem, comprising of five reels, four rows, 30 paylines and 14 super spin positions between the five reels. We'll return to these later. Keep reading to learn more about this new Print Studios slot machine in our Royal Potato review.
The slot's 30 paylines award winning combinations from three to five of a kind. There are four lower-valued symbols that are different types of flowers. These can win you between x1.5 to x3 your bet.
Next, there are some middle-value symbols, which are not that common in modern slot games that usually just have low and high-value symbols. These middle-values symbols are potato characters called either Russet, Yukon, Kennebec or Desiree. They can win you between x6 and x12.5 your stake.
The two highest value symbols are the potato king and queen. With five of these across a payline, you’ll win either x25 or x50 your stake, respectively. Interestingly, Print Studios has chosen not to include a Wild symbol within the base game – but there is a Jumbo Wild during the free spins bonus.
There are three potential bonus features within Royal Potato, namely the Super Spinners game, the Royal Levy and the free spins bonus.
1. Super Spinners
There are 14 Super Spinner positions situated between the grid positions within the base and bonus games. When winning combinations across the main grid pass through a Super Spinner position, the win may be multiplied depending on what is showing in these bonus positions. Winning combinations can pass through multiple Super Spinner positions for even bigger wins.
2. The Royal Levy
At random, when king or queen symbols land in view, a random prize may be awarded. This prize is boosted by the total of all the Super Spinner numbers in sight, meaning big prizes on some spins.
3. Free spins bonus
The free spins game is exactly how it sounds but is more elaborate than some other slot games' free spins bonuses. The bonus round will be activated when three, four or five scatters land in play, which rewards players with 10,12 and 14 free spins, respectively. The round of free spins begins with a Jumbo 2x1 sticky wild in the middle of the grid. But it only acts as a wild for certain symbols, which are highlighted in a unique symbol panel next to the grid.
The jumbo Wild will always start by only replacing low-value symbols, but as winning combinations land, two things happen. First, the Wild grows bigger, and the symbols it can represent become more valuable. It is even possible for the Wild to cover the whole grid for a big cash prize.
On top of the three bonuses mentioned above, players sometimes get the option of buying into the free spins game. However, this comes at a cost of x93 your stake.
